Care for your Italian Book

We produce the highest quality books available, and with some care, your book will last for generations.  The following are suggestions for maintaining your heirloom product so it looks as good 50 years from now as it did the day you received it.

Printing Technology:

4-color Offset:  Textured Linen Paper and Smooth Paper.
All of our 4-color offset books are printed on an Indigo commercial printing press.  This is the same technology used to print coffee table art books that you find at national book retailers.  This printing technology requires little care to maintain its original appearance provided you do not leave the book open, especially where it can be exposed to sunlight.  The pages are not treated, so take special care not to get them wet.  If you do accidentally spill water on your book, immediately get a soft dry towel and pat the water off the book.  The ink will not run, but the page can become damaged if you allow the water to seep into the page.  Because these are paper pages they can react to shifts in humidity.  If you notice a slight wave in your pages over the course of the year, it is simply your book reacting to changes in humidity.  This does not effect the quality of construction and the book will return to normal after a period of time, or if you move it to a different environment.

Photographic Paper: Kodak® Endura & Kodak® Endura Metallic

     Kodak® Endura:
We also produce books on a Durst Lamda that is a photographic technology.  We use only the finest Kodak papers.  If you have chosen our standard Endura paper, your book is rated for 70 years with no noticeable change in image quality.

Basic care for this style of printing is the same as our offset: do not leave it open in direct sunlight, do not get it wet, do not be concerned if the pages become wavy during certain times of the year when there is high humidity.

You may also notice a slight pink hue in the crease of your book.  This is a normal occurrence when books using photographic paper are constructed with continuous, non-interrupted pages.  When the seam is made the emulsion in the paper reacts to pressure and has a tendency to turn a soft shade of pink.  In no way does this affect the quality of the book.  It will not darken over time.  It will not cause the seam to crack.

     Kodak® Endura Metallic:
If you have chosen our metallic option, you truly have in your possession the most incredible photographic paper available.  This book will maintain its vibrancy well over 100 years provided you do not leave it exposed to sunlight or get it wet.  The only maintenance required with this state of the art technology is to wipe the pages from time to time with an anti-static cloth, which can be purchased at an office supply store.  This particular style of photographic paper has a tendency to attract static electricity that will cause the pages to become “sticky”.  Simply by wiping the pages with an anti-static cloth, the static is removed and the pages will turn easily.

We want to congratulate thank you for choosing our fine products, and rest assured we stand 100% behind our quality of workmanship
