School board recognizes students, parents and GLAD teacher
FOUNTAIN VALLEY Students and parents from Plavan Elementary and Roch Courreges Elementary schools and Plavan teacher Cindy Bragdon took center stage at the beginning of the Fountain Valley School District board meeting Tuesday.
The board recognized 13 students in first through fifth grade from the two elementary schools for demonstrating outstanding achievement, effort or improvement.
Kindergartener Lorenzo Cerda, first-grader Gracie Mendoza, second-grader Mitchell Bollinger, third-grader Phuong Nguyen, fourth-grader Matthew Chau, fourth-grader Jordan Boone and fifth-grader Melissa Ly of Plavan Elementary were presented to the board.
Kindergartener Nicholas Horn, first-grader Kerrington Kimble, second-grader Raquel Velez, third-grader Matthew Messick, fourth-grader Angelica Moreno and fifth-grader Austin Mak of Courreges Elementary also were recognized.
Parent volunteers Selena Marion, Debra Vaught and Lisa Young of Plavan and Melinda Lynch and Nicole Weiss of Courreges were honored as well for volunteering their time and talents to their respective schools.
The school board also recognized the achievements of Bragdon, who passed her certification to be a district Guided Language Acquisition Design, or GLAD, key trainer. The program trains teachers who work with children learning English.
